고대 도시 베이징 (Beijing Biography of an Imperial Capital) 3부작

 

다큐소개 :  BBC Knowledge (2008) 작품입니다. 해석이 잘 됬나 모르겠네요. 아무리 찾아봐도 안보여서 그냥 영어 멋대로 해석해봅니다.

베이징은 원래 수도가 아니였습니다. 고대 중국에서는 그저 별 볼일 없는 주변에 위치한 도시였지만 몇몇 위대한 사람들이 그곳의 전략적 가치를 알아본 후 그들에 의해 중국과 세계사에 있어서 가장 중요한 사건을 지닌 도시로 바꾸었습니다. 그 가치는 베이징을 중국에서 1000년이라는 오랜 시간 동안 수도러서 지낼 수 있게 하는 원동력이 되었습니다. 지금부터는 3가지의 역사적 사실들을 통해서 중국의 고대 도시였던 베이징이 어떻게 재연하게 되었는지를 살펴볼 것 입니다. 몽골의 징기스칸의 도시 정복과 파괴에서, 중국의 마지막 황제가 자금성에서 추방되었던 사건들과, 역사에서 보여주었던 강력한 통치와 반대세력과의 관계를 이야기해 볼 것입니다. 각 에피소드는 이러한 사건들을 재조명하고 위대한 중국의 수도인 베이징에 어떤 영향을 끼쳤는지를 설명해봅니다.

From the city's conquest and destruction by the Mongol hordes of Ghengis Khan, to the moment when China's last emperor was expelled from the Forbidden City, Beijing's biography is a story of mighty rulers, rebels and renegades. Each episode describes the key events and forces that influenced the formation of this unique city - the capital of the Great Chinese Empire.   

 

1부. 세계의 중심 베이징 :  현재 베이징은 지구상에서 가장 인구가 많은 도시이지만, 한때는 또 다른 국경 마을이었습니다. 그런곳이 점점 중국에서 중심이 되어갔다는건 상상하기 힘든것입니다. 어떻게 이런 일이 일어났을까요? Today Beijing is the capital of the most populous nation in this planet, but once it was just another border town. And it's hard to imagine that over time this place became the center of the Chinese Empire. How could it happen, and why?    2부. 베이징을 노리는 이방인들 :  For thousands of years China was separated by a wall from the outside world, but it's name alone attracted travelers and invaders. Their search for fame and fortune became part of the forces in China's destiny. Often they arrived by open gates, but sometimes gates were opened by force.     3부. 황제, 정복자 그리고 반대 세력 : Beijing - the heart of imperial China. A giant stage, and also prison for unfortunate ones. Power to rule attracted conquerors and corrupted leaders. They all left their marks that can be seen in Beijing even today.
